In making the Editor's Choice of the Best Corporate Achievements in the Year 2010, the Editor looked for product innovation, products that disrupt the market with their performance, affordable prices, and success in the market place.

The Editor commented: "In 2010, large and small companies recognised that video meetings were a real alternative to domestic and international travel that improved productivity, and saved them costs and management time. Demand for Telepresence was very strong and there were many large enterprise-wide deployments. The superb quality of Full 1080p High Definition video was widely recognized and large deployments in conference rooms and on the desktop were made. Video became an essential part of Unified Communications for a growing number of companies. The five vendor companies chosen for the 2010 Awards produced the innovative products that best met these customer demands."

Teliris continued to lead innovation in the Telepresence Industry with a curved, panoramic display for truly immersive Telepresence at the desktop, 3D Telepresence available in one, two or three display configurations, and a Home Telepresence unit for the remote worker.

LifeSize, a division of Logitech, enhanced their products so that all their HD Videoconferencing endpoints and infrastructure products can handle 1080p Full High Definition video. The resulting high-quality experience and low total cost of ownership were appreciated by their customers.

RADVISION serves the growing demand for Unified Communications with three groups of products: Unified Communications; Visual Communications; and Developer solutions. RADVISION developer solutions have been vital to the development of Unified Communications and the use the use of smart phones and tablets on videoconferencing networks. High Definition videoconferencing endpoints were added to its infrastructure products range in 2010.

Ofer Shapiro has been CEO of Vidyo, Inc. since he helped found the company in April 2005. Under his leadership, Vidyo has revolutionised the approach to delivering multi-site High Definition videoconferencing by making it possible over general purpose networks like the Internet and now smart phones and tablets on wireless mobile networks using a software-solution. The VidyoConferencing platform uses a simple router rather than an MCU to create a multi-site video network. The award recognizes his personal contribution to this innovation and leading its commercial realization and success.

The HD Videoconferencing network platform called VidyoConferencing is deemed the most important innovation of 2010. Vidyo has developed the neatest and most innovative solution to overcome the problems of using video on the Internet and general purpose IP networks, namely packet loss, variations in available bandwidth and latency. Using SVC (scaleable video coding), Vidyo changes the way the video signal is represented by representing it in a number of layers. The VidyoRouter's intelligence decides which layers will be transmitted to each site on a video network, at what frame rate and over what bandwidth. The video endpoints do the video compression and decompression.

Vaddio added to its leading range of robotic PTZ cameras and high-end camera control systems in 2010 and also launched two new product lines: furniture for housing Telepresence and videoconferencing solutions and electronic video whiteboards. Vaddio also launched innovative new products designed for the education and distance-learning marketplace. A total of 10 new innovative peripheral products were introduced in 2010.

In forthcoming issues of the newsletter, the Editor will select the Best Achievements of 2010 in: Telepresence solutions, High Definition videoconferencing systems, video network infrastructure products, and managed videoconferencing service providers.
